Put a spring in your holiday, it's all about blue-sky thinking!

20th March 2021

It's officially the first day of Spring!

Watch the world re-awaken under the blue skies at Tapnell Farm on the Isle of Wight this Spring.

Ok, hands up, we can’t ALWAYS promise blue skies in the spring, but we can promise that your time spent with us will have you leaving with a fresh glow and a spring in your step. The weather is warming up, flora and fauna are blooming to life, the days are getting longer and luckily, we have lots for you to fill them with!

We love all the seasons at Tapnell Farm, there’s always something new to discover, or re-discover, year in, year out – however, this Winter has been slightly more challenging and on the 12th of April we’re going to feel like animals creaking and crawling out of hibernation for the first time #goodbyelockdown, and for some of you, this may feel a little more daunting, but we’re here to help. #EscapeTheEveryday

Tapnell Farm landscape

Imagine waking up in the countryside and the peace and space that brings with it, listening to the birdsong, roaming the country lanes, or perhaps dipping your toes in the sea, there is a great sense of freedom and space on the Island, away from the hustle and bustle of crowds and our busy home lives.

The key ingredients to a successful re-awakening are to nourish, move, and re-connect.

Whether you are travelling to us as a family group, a couple, or just with friends; we’re the perfect place to wake up to. You can rest assured that you can relax as Tapnell Farm is run by families for families across generations - We get you!

There’s a lot to do on the Isle of Wight that will have you working up a healthy appetite! And whether it’s a good hearty meal that’s being cooked for you by our talented chefs at The Cow Restaurant and Bar, or a breakfast of champions made in your accommodation using locally sourced goodies from our onsite farm shop (opening this spring), and fresh eggs from the hens – Food will play a big part in your holiday with us this spring. We are all about seasonal and locally sourced ingredients at Tapnell Farm, trying to keep to ‘Field to Fork’ as much as possible. If you are visiting us soon don’t forget to book your table at The Cow so you can relax knowing that tummies will be full and happy when you visit.

With longer days on the horizon, you may want to start making the most of alfresco dining again. At Tom’s Eco Lodge we have a woodfired pizza oven in a woodland clearing, the perfect place for an early evening feast with the family – Or perhaps you would like to gather around a fire pit at your cabin or tent. The evenings are yours to stretch out and enjoy, especially with those epic Tapnell Sunsets.

Tapnell Farm is the perfect base for an active holiday (or less active if you want to slow the pace down – see ‘re-connect') It’s a gateway to long meandering country trails filled with spring flowers and wildlife. Perhaps you are packing your running trainers, hiring a bike or walking with the family and your four-legged friend you decide the pace, just get out there! The Tapnell Trail is a great place to start.

If you do decide to trade in your wellies for two wheels one day, then look no further than ‘Wight Cycle Hire’ which has a hub at the Farm. They make it really easy for you to grab bikes for the whole family when you visit.

If you prefer to exercise in the sea, why not bring your swimmers and a robe and try some wild swimming to awaken the senses, it will be cold, but we hear it’s worth it! And if you would rather ride the waves then the Island has some sweet surf breaks in the Spring, ideal for all levels of surfing, be sure to check out ‘isurf’ for local lessons.

And the pièce de résistance for action on and off the water at Tapnell is our onsite Inflatable Aqua Park which opens on May 17th, suitable for those aged 8+ the park provides wetsuits and buoyancy aids so all you need to do is bring the energy! Online booking for the Aqua Park is now LIVE so be sure to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

It’s been a long time since you have been able to spend time with friends and family outside your bubble (when allowed), and this trip to The Isle of Wight might be the time you re-connect with those loved ones. Whether it’s a long weekend in our Manor or Farmhouse or a week away in a cabin, dome, or safari tent, there’s ample room for all at Tapnell Farm, it really is a rural retreat. This might be the first time you have stepped away from your comfort zone since the pandemic hit, and we want you to know that Tapnell Farm takes Covid safety very seriously and we have listed all the ways we will be keeping you and our staff safe when you visit, here

Now that’s out the way, and you can relax a little more, this might also be a great time to have a digital detox. That millionth zoom call doesn’t have to be taken; you are on holiday! Put down your phone (a window to the world during lockdown – we get it) and be present in your beautiful new surroundings, see those happy faces of loved ones thriving in it, and all the new things you can discover about yourself whilst you are here. #rewildyouinnerchild

Perhaps lockdown has meant that instead of slowing down, you’ve had to pick up the pace and have been juggling a lot such as homeschooling, working from home and extra support for those in your bubble. If that’s the case you might want to treat yourself to a dreamy wooden stove heated tub (selected properties) or a takeaway dinner from The Cow, enjoyed with your feet up in your cosy accommodation and minimal washing up.

Quality family time could be spent discovering the wildlife and farm animals in the fields surrounding the farm or booking a session at Tapnell Farm Park! Discovering someone in your family is an archery pro or take out that lockdown frustration on a lump of wood in our Archery & Axe throwing sessions. Or perhaps it’s kicking a ball around on the grass and roasting marshmallows in the evening. Take time to re-connect, it’s often the simple things that bring us together.
